The Second Wind Scramble

The Second Wind Scramble takes off from Durango Mountain Resort on Sept. 17 with a dual mission: offer a first-of-its-kind adventure race to local athletes and raise funds and awareness for the fight against teen suicide in the Four Corners.

Participants have the choice of three different courses or the option of cheering from the sidelines and helping with fund-raising activities. The scramble is a foot race designed to be challenging and fun and includes obstacle challenges such as a spider web, army crawl, tires and a scavenger hunt. An after-race party with live entertainment, food, drink and awards will round out the event. There will also be informational booths for suicide awareness and prevention as well as opportunities for those who have lost a loved one to suicide to share and participate in support and memorial activities.
The Scramble includes three categories:
- The Scamper – A 1-mile “fun” course for the entire family.
- The Sprint – A 5K run with a range of obstacles geared toward the moderate athlete.
- The Survivor – A 10K, largely uphill race designed for advanced athletes.
The day is also open to “Fund Racers,” who will work to raise pledges whether they are racing or not. Registration is currently open for racers at www.active.com, and the Scramble is still in need of donations and sponsorships.
