The Living Oracle
Mancos will once again be offering some sage advice from the great beyond. The sacred interactive theatrical event “Living Tarot Oracle” returns for a second year at the Mancos Opera House, Sat., Nov. 5, from 5-8 p.m. and Sun., Nov. 6, 3-6 p.m.

“We have 40 people involved, from a combination of Durango, Bayfield, Mancos, Cortez and Dolores,” said event organizer Tami Graham. “It’s by far the most unique event I’ve ever produced, in that it combines ‘entertainment’ with audience interaction.”

The event will again utilize the ancient divination tool of Tarot cards with live “oracles.” Tarot cards were the precursor to modern-day playing cards and have been in use since the mid-15th century, originating in Europe. This event will include a living representation of each of the 22 major cards of the Tarot deck. Each of the “living oracles” will be in full costume.

Tarot readers will assist participants in framing their questions.  Once participants have pulled cards, they will be directed to the “living oracles” of the cards they drew.
Cost is $10 for a one-card reading, $5 for each additional card. Readings will be limited to three cards per question.

“This year’s event is especially potent, as we lost our dear friend Brad Buckley – who was to be our Hermit last year – exactly one year ago today,” said Graham.

Move over, Chubby Hubby
Tired of the same old ice cream? Leave it to the enterprising folks at Ben & Jerry’s to get people back in the frozen foods aisle. The ice cream giant, known for its novelty flavor offerings, has introduced “Schweddy Balls,” a nod to the infamous Saturday Night Live spoof of National Public Radio.
Available in both pints and at Scoop Shops, this flavor is described as “fair trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum … loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls.”

“It’s not too bad if you can get over the awkwardness of ordering it,” noted one consumer who sampled the tasty if not unappetizingly named treat.
And for those not able to get enough Schweddy Balls, fans can send a personalized “Schweddy Greeting Card” via Facebook from the Ben & Jerry’s website: www.benjerry.com.
