Fathers meet funny at Community Concert Hall
What: “Stand-up Dads” comedy show

Father knows best when it comes to funny. The Stand-up Dads take to the stage for an evening filled with laughter at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.
 
The show, headlined by three celebrated patriarchs, is the brainchild of comedian Dan St. Paul, a native of San Francisco. It explores “the grist of fatherhood and suburban life” with a smile and is meant for adult audiences.
 
St. Paul is no stranger to the spotlight after appearing on shows like “An Evening at the Improv” and “Comic Strip Live,” and opening for acts such as Vince Gill and Smokey Robinson.
 
St. Paul is joined by fellow comedians Kelly McDonald and Milt Abel. McDonald, who hails from New York, has performed on “The Merv Griffin Show” and “The Tonight Show.” Abel, who calls Oregon home, has also graced the stage on “An Evening at the Improv,” and authored a book of humorous short stories, Stories from the Delux.

Mountain Film Festival offers views from the top

Outdoor experiences find a home on film at the Mountain Film on Tour festival, the fall fund-raiser for Durango Nature Studies.
 
The longest picture at the festival is “Kadoma,” a 44-minute film named for Hendri Coetzee, a legendary South African kayaker.
 
American pro kayakers Chris Korbulic and Ben Stookesbury, who also directs the film, follow Coetzee along Africa’s wildest river and experience his trials, travels and tragic death.
“Chasing Water” is 19 minutes and focuses on photojournalist Peter McBride as he sets out to document the course of the Colorado River, “from source to sea.”
 
Other entries, all under 10 minutes, include, “Way Back Home,” “One Plastic Beach,” “Eel Water Rock Man,” “I Know What You Spilled Last Summer” and “Yelp.”
 
Telluride local Kim Havell is featured in the eight-minute film “Berber Turns,” where she teams up with Kris Erickson and Chris Rubens for a skiing adventure in Morocco.
