‘Art’ goes on stage at Fort Lewis College
What: A play exploring the function and purpose of artwork
Where: The Black Box Gallery Theatre
When: Feb. 17-19 & 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 3 p.m.
A different breed of “Art” will take over Fort Lewis
College in coming weeks. The FLC Theatre Department presents
”Art,” a play about the intangible issues surrounding
art and friendship, oan Feb. 17-20 and 24-26.
Written by Yasmina Reza and directed by Kathryn Moller,
“Art” opens with a man spending thousands of dollars on
what is essentially a white canvas. His dumbfounded buddies
struggle to understand the purchase and maintain their friendship.
As the play progresses, it peeks into individual opinions and
values surrounding art and poses the most basic questions about the
function and purpose of art in our culture: What is art and what
role does it play in our lives?
The play will show in the Black Box Gallery Theatre, and seating
is limited, so advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended.
Shows are set for 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 17-19 & 24-26, and there
will be a 3 p.m. on Feb. 20. For more information, visit www.durangoconcerts.com.

Boulder Acoustic Society returning to the Hank
What: A local concert from the indie-folk band
Where: The Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.
When: Sat., Feb. 19. Doors at 7:30 p.m.
A Colorado favorite goes back on stage in Durango this week. The
Boulder Acoustic Society plays the Henry Strater Theater on Feb.
19.
BAS characterizes its music as indie-folk that draws from
“Appalachian roots, gritty gospel and urban
soundscapes.” Five years, five albums and relentless touring
have honed Boulder Acoustic Society into one of tightest bands of
any genre. The band recently released “Punchline,” a
full-length album that’s getting noticed all over the
West.
“The now well-oiled machinery of the group has kicked into
high gear. Punchline’s 15 songs are packed with alternately
smoky, bouncy and twangy tunes that call to mind everyone from Tom
Waits to Split Lip Rayfield to They Might Be Giants,” Jason
Heller wrote in Westword.
Doors to the 18+ show open at 7:30 p.m., and the band is set to
go on at 8 p.m. For more information, call 375-7160 or visit www.HenryStraterTheatre.com.
