Scandal hits The North Pole in the dark Christmas comedy “The Eight: Reindeer Monologues,” by Jeff Goode.
 
One of Santa’s eight famous reindeer accuses the jolly fellow of sexual harassment. The media arrives on the scene and starts to dig deeper, only to find a web of corruption. The truth becomes murky as each deer reveals Santa’s secrets.
 
No one is left untouched by the sleigh team’s torrid tales, “from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself.”
 
This production has made it across America, and even hit the international stage, showing in Canada and London. The show opens Saturday, and returns Dec. 16 - 17 at 9:45 p.m. at the Durango Arts Center.
 
This comedy, presented by The Buck Stops Here Productions, is for mature audiences only.

The Nutcracker returns to the Concert Hall

The magical world of mice kings and nutcracker princes descends on Durango to usher in the holiday season.
 
The enchanted world of The Nutcracker Ballet returns to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, performed by the State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara.
 
Based on the book, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, by E.T.A. Hoffman, this famous musical tells the story of a young girl, Clara, and her holiday dreams. Clara’s prince, a toy nutcracker, comes to life and takes her on a journey to a magical land of angels, mice, and soldiers.
 
Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson honors the original Tchaikovsky masterpiece set in Victorian times, and the highly acclaimed California production company is joined by 54 young, local dancers.

Farmer’s Market makes a holiday appearance

It’s the last chance for Durangoans to get their fill of the Farmer’s Market until the snow melts.
 
The Holiday Farmer’s Market makes its final appearance at the La Plata County Fairgrounds on Saturday before settling in for the winter season.
 
Enjoy fresh goods and goodies, while supporting area farmers, ranchers, gardeners, herbalists, and artists. The market features everything from fresh cut flowers to fire-roasted green chilies. Locally grown produce and locally raised beef and chicken are common Farmer’s Market fare, alongside candles, pottery and honey.
 
Vendors are required to grow or produce their own goods, which must come from the surrounding five-county region. So, put a face to the name of your favorite area producers, growers and artisans while supporting the local community.
