Tri the Rim returns Sunday Durango’s longest-running triathlon is back this weekend. Fort Lewis College will host the 23rd annual Tri the Rim Triathlon at 10 a.m. this Sun., April 17. As always, the race is a sprint format, featuring a 500-yard swim in the FLC Aquatic Center, an 11-mile bike ride, and a 3-mile run on trail and pavement. “Tri the Rim is popular with all kinds of athletes, from first-timers to experienced professionals,” says race organizer, Matthew Krichman. “The distance is ideal for folks who are new to triathlons, and it’s also a great, early season tune-up race for more competitive athletes.” Returning this year to join the field of 168 athletes are last year’s winners, Molly Hummel and Gerry Geraghty. As this is the College’s Centennial year, a special Centennial award will be presented to one of the triathlon’s participants. Tri the Rim is a rain or shine event, and participants and spectators are encouraged to plan for any weather condition. For more information, visit www2.fortlewis.edu/tritherim. |
