Melodrama returns to the Henry Strater Theatre
What: George M. Cohen’s “The Tavern” and a Vaudeville revue
Where: The Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.
When: Opening on June 11 at 7:45 p.m. and running on Tuesday through Sunday throughout the summer
Melodrama returns to the Henry Strater Theatre this Friday. A
nearly 50-year-old local tradition goes back on stage at the Hank
with the George M. Cohan classic, “The Tavern.” The
play will be followed by a traditional Vaudeville revue.
“The Tavern” takes place in a lonely tavern on a
wild and stormy night. The cast of characters includes a mysterious
vagabond, a woman, and the State Governor and his family. Several
persons are suspected of a crime and the vagabond takes infinite
delight in observing developments as they take place about him.
Hisses, cheers and ahhh’s from the crowd are all a welcome
part of the nuanced theater.
“The Tavern” shows nightly – Tuesday through
Sunday – at 7:45 p.m., and shows run through Aug. 21. More
information can be found at www.henrystratertheatre.com or by
calling 375-7160.
