Locals Day returns to Durango Mountain Resort
What: A discounted day of skiing for locals benefiting local charities
Where: Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort
When: Sun., Jan. 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Durango Mountain Resort is pulling out another one for the
locals this Sunday. The ski area’s second Locals Day is
scheduled for Jan. 10.
Lift tickets will be discounted to $39 and available for
purchase with a coupon available in this week’s edition of
the Durango Telegraph (see page 5). Coupons can also be found at www.ksut.org and www.buzztown.com. Good turns and good karma will
also go hand-in-hand Jan. 10, as a portion of the proceeds will
help offset the medical expenses of longtime DMR employee Barry
“Carmine” Kemler, whose daughter is undergoing medical
treatment in Denver.
This year, the resort received applications from more than 30
nonprofits seeking to be the beneficiary for DMR’s annual
Benefit Day. As a result, DMR added a fund-raising component to
each of its four Locals Days.

Ska Brewing hosts the Helping Hand Benefit
What: A fund-raiser for Durango’s Tony Miely, who lost his hand in an accident
Where: Ska Brewing, 225 Girard St.
When: Sat., Jan. 9, 5-10 p.m.
Durangoans can take in food, drink and live music this week and
lend a helping hand at the same time. The Tony Miely Helping Hand
Benefit takes place this Sat., Jan. 9, at the Ska Brewing World
Headquarters.
Miely, a local kayaker, manager of 4 Corners Riversports, and
all around great guy, was in a serious ATV accident on Sept. 18
that resulted in the amputation of his right hand. The community is
joining together this Saturday to help Tony with the costs of many
surgeries, an extended ICU stay, and to give him the hand (a
prosthetic hand) he needs.
The benefit runs from 5-10 p.m. and features a silent auction, a
raffle for a 16’ cataraft package, food from Zia Taqueria,
beer from Ska and live music by Farmington Hill and Tricky Kitty.
Raffle tickets can be purchased online at www.riversports.com . Attendees are encouraged to take the
Trolley to Ska Brewing and ride the Buzz Bus home. The first Buzz
Bus will leave Ska at 9 p.m.
