The Lawn Chair Kings will ring in the New Year at the Abbey
Theatre. The Abbey is offering a variety of packages for the
evening, and Durango’s favorite suburban rockers will unveil
a new lineup at the show.
The Lawn Chair Kings have been on the local music scene since
2000 and celebrate “western garage” by mixing country,
rock, pop and punk influences. The current line up features Dan
Leek (bass/vocals), Steve Mendias (drums, vocals), Erik Nordstrom
(vocals, guitar, harmonica), and Jeff Moorehead (pedal steel,
banjo, dobro, guitar).
Doors to the show open at 7 p.m., and VIP tickets include a
catered dinner and two free drinks. The concert benefits Del Alma,
a local nonprofit based on the principles of positive youth
development.

Local, regional and national economies go into the spotlight
next week at Fort Lewis College. The 19th Southwest Business Forum
returns to the Community Concert Hall on Jan. 6. The event is free,
open to the public and runs from 8 a.m.-noon. next Thursday.
The forum brings together experts on local, state, national and
international economies and businesses. Armed with the knowledge
gained from these experts, as well as their predictions for the
future, attendees can make better personal and business
decisions.
Speakers include Richard Wobbekind, director of the University
of Colorado’s Business Research Division; Scott Anderson,
senior economist & vice president with Wells Fargo Bank; and
Luke Miller, assistant professor of finance at Fort Lewis
College.

Durango Arts Center to host New Year’s bash
What: A 1950s-themed concert/party to benefit the DAC
Where: The Durango Arts Center, 802 E. Second Ave.
When: Fri., Dec. 31, from 8 p.m.-1 a.m.
The Durango Arts Center is time-warping back to the 1950s for
New Year’s Eve. A Las Vegas/Rat Pack-themed celebration is on
tap for the evening, and Traci Lyn Thomas will provide
entertainment for the fund-raiser for the DAC.
The party – “think Frank Sinatra and martinis”
– gets under way at 8 p.m. Thomas, the star of “Always
Patsy Cline,” will play a cabaret show in the DAC Gallery,
and many styles of dancing and dance lessons will be offered. Diane
Panelli, DAC theater manager and experienced chef, will whip up a
series of culinary delights for the occasion, and guests will be
treated to a champagne toast at midnight

care will be offered on-site for a nominal charge.
