Durango Telegraph - First Night at a glance
First Night at a glance

There are a lot of exciting films that never make it to Durango’s two theaters. Here are five films from 2010 that I’m excited to see:

1. “The King’s Speech” - Everyone’s saying Colin Firth’s portrayal of the stammering King George VI will garner him an Oscar this year, and that Geoffrey Rush as his speech therapist isn’t half bad, either.

2. “127 Hours” - Fresh off his triumphant “Slumdog Millionaire,” Danny Boyle turns his camera to the story of climber Aaron Ralston. I don’t really understand why a survival tale about an adventurer isn’t playing in Durango, but alas.

3. “The Illusionist” - The animators behind the absolutely delightful “Triplets of Belleville” take on an old, never-filmed Jacques Tati script. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

4. “Dogtooth” - I keep hearing about this film: that it’s great, horrifying, wonderful, awful, amazing, unforgettable. Can’t wait to see if for myself.

5. “The Kids Are All Right” - Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are a lesbian couple whose teen-age kids decide to seek out their biological father.
