Renowned artist stops off at Sorrel Sky
What: A one-night show from artist Tom Palmore
Where: Sorrel Sky Gallery, 870 Main Ave.
When: Sept. 12, 5-7:30 p.m.
A portrait artist unlike any other pays Durango a visit this
week. The Sorrel Sky Gallery presents a one-man, one-night art show
with Tom Palmore this Saturday. Palmore will bring his animal
portraits to Main Avenue from 5-7:30 p.m.
For the last 35 years, Palmore has focused his creative energy
and artistic skill on the other earthlings that share this planet.
His animal portrait compositions tell a story of dignity and charm,
with a wit and humor that is not necessarily logical. His work has
earned him a reputation as one of the most unconventional portrait
artists of his time.
Though occasionally characterized as a wildlife painter, Palmore
shuns the stereotype. “Even when I put an animal in a natural
setting, I try to make it my own through unusual lighting, unique
compositions or atypical points of view,” he told the
California Literary Review.
And the world at large has taken notice. Palmore’s works
are in the permanent collections The Philadelphia Museum of Art,
the Denver Art Museum and the Whitney Museum of Art. For more
information on the local show, call 247-3555.
