DAM presents a legendary Texas outlaw
What: A local concert from Ray Wylie Hubbard
Where: The Smiley Theatre, 1309 E. Third Ave.
When: Sat., Aug. 1. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
A legend of outlaw country will help Durango Acoustic Music kick
off its 20th season this Saturday. Ray Wylie Hubbard will play an
Aug. 1 DAM show, and doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Ray Wylie Hubbard was one of the Texas songwriters who ushered
in the Cosmic Cowboy and Outlaw Country eras of the 1970s. Best
known for writing the song “Up Against the Wall, Redneck
Mothers” for Jerry Jeff Walker in 1973, he’s released a
string of award-winning albums over the past 15 years. He’s
known for mixing folk, blues, country and early ‘70s Rolling
Stones-type rock and roll with his Lone Star Zen mysticism.
Hubbard’s latest offering is the gritty, humorous, seductive
and intelligent ”Snake Farm,” a collection of
commanding songs that juxtapose Hubbard’s impeccable lyrics
with dirty, primal grooves.
Tickets and DAM memberships are available at Animas Trading Co.,
Canyon Music and Southwest Sound. The concert is open to all ages,
but DAM will be selling Ska beer and wine from Durango Liquor for
those ages 21 and over.
