DEVO hosts ‘Ride Like a Kid’ at FLC
What: A benefit for Durango DEVO featuring local cycling legends
Where: The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College

Durango’s cycling celebrities will share their stories
next week in a fund-raiser for the next generation of riders.
“Ride Like a Kid” goes on stage at the Community
Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on Tues., March 3, and benefits
the 2009 Durango DEVO Scholarship Fund. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Bob Roll, Tour de France commentator and local road bike
luminary, will serve as the event’s host. Roll will interview
a variety of local legends: Chris Wherry, Ned Overend, Tad Elliot,
Ruthie Mathis, Cindy Whitehead Buccowich and others, who will share
stories of how their love of cycling began and grew. In a nod to up
and comers, there will be a “kids only” seating section
right down in front.
Only 600 tickets are available for the event, and all proceeds
benefit Durango DEVO – the local junior development mountain

Wild and Scenic Film Festival comes to Durango
What: A showing of the Patagonia Wild and Scenic Film Festival
Where: The Smiley Theatre, 1309 E. Third Ave.
When: Sat., Feb. 28, with a 1 p.m. children’s matinee; a 6 p.m. reception; and films at 7 p.m.
The Patagonia Wild and Scenic Film Festival goes up on the local
screen this Saturday and benefits two Durango nonprofits. The
Festival shows at the Smiley Theatre and includes a 1 p.m.
children’s matinee, a 6 p.m. reception including live music,
beer and food, and a 7 p.m. screening for adults.
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival is in its seventh year and is
the largest environmental film festival in the United States. The
event’s beneficiaries – Durango Nature Studies and
Great Old Broads for Wilderness – are hoping the festival
will bring awareness to local environmental issues as well as
inspiring local children and adults to look outside and become
involved in preserving the environment.
