Durango BMX hosts annual ‘Race For Life’
What: The annual race benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Where: The Durango BMX track
When: Sat., Aug. 29. Sign-ups from 10-11 a.m.
Durango will pedal for the end of leukemia this weekend. Durango
BMX hosts its “Race for Life” on Aug. 29. No BMX
license is needed, and riders of all ages and abilities are
encouraged to participate in the event which benefits The Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society.
The Race for Life’s roots go back to 1981 when Todd
Kingsbury, an avid 12-year-old BMX racer from Michigan, discovered
he had Leukemia. The first ABA “Race for Life” events
were formed that year, with more than 130 tracks participating and
raising funds for finding a cure. The race serves a dual purpose of
introducing new riders to the sport of BMX racing. It is the only
race in the year where riders do not need an ABA license to
compete.
Sign ups for Saturday’s Race for Life take place from
10-11 a.m. Racing will begin shortly thereafter. For more

Tour de Farms takes off this Sunday
What: The 3rd annual Tour de Farms Durango Bike Tour
Where: Downtown Durango and southern La Plata County
When: Sun., Aug. 30
Durango celebrates local food and active living this Sunday as
the 3rd annual Tour de Farms Durango Bike Tour takes off. Sponsored
by Healthy Lifestyle La Plata Coalition, the educational bike tour
highlights what is unique, healthy and homegrown about the Durango
community.
This year’s Tour de Farms offers two routes – a
leisurely 5-mile, in-town tour and a 35-mile long loop to Ignacio.
All participants will visit cutting-edge examples of sustainable
agricultural projects. The Tour will feature presentations from
farmers and garden directors and share ways you can support area
efforts to strengthen the local food system. Both rides return to
the Smiley Building for an all local food barbeque and live
music.
All riders must be registered and come prepared with bike, rain

San Juan Brewfest returns to downtown
What: The 11th annual San Juan Brewfest
Where: The 1200 block of Main Ave.

Local suds flow into downtown Durango this weekend. The San Juan
Brewfest returns for its annual edition on Sun., Aug. 30, and an
abundance of libations, food and entertainment will be on tap.
Durango Mountain Resort and Cookmanfood.com are hosting the 11th
annual brewfest and bringing 20 of the country’s best
breweries to the 1200 block of Main. The entry fee includes
unlimited tastings and a collector’s edition glass as well as
beer brats from Sunnyside Farms Market and music from A Dub Rock
Band. Local breweries – Carvers, Durango Brewing, Ska and
Steamworks – will be on hand and joined by dozens of others
such as: Alaskan Brewing, New Belgium, Bristol and
Eske’s.
The Brewfest runs from 2-6 p.m., and proceeds from the afternoon
event benefit the United Way of Southwest Colorado. For more
