Getting registered ? Oct. 6 deadline approaches |

Durangoans have only a few more days to get their names on the voter rolls for the Nov. 4 election. Oct. 6 is the deadline to register for the 2008 election. A giant ballot awaits local residents at the polls this year. Along with the Presidential Election, there are candidates running to represent La Plata County in the U. S. Senate, the U. S. Congress, the Colorado State Legislature, on the State Board of Education, in the 6th Judicial District and on the La Plata County Board of Commissioners. The La Plata County ballot will also contain 18 State of Colorado ballot issues, and some ballots will also include local ballot issues. Those who want to vote but are not registered have a variety of options. The League of Women Voters will be at the Durango Farmers’ Market on Sept. 27 to register voters and help voters change their address or apply for a permanent mail-in ballot. Local residents can also register on or before Oct. 6 at the La Plata County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, 1060 E. Second Ave. A mail-in application form is also available at www.lwvlaplata.org. – Will Sands |
