Durango Nature Studies hosts Picnic in the Park
What: A free children’s concert featuring noted musician Jeff Kagan
Where: Buckley Park
When: Sun., Sept. 14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Nature-based music for kids takes center stage this Sunday.
Durango Nature Studies, in conjunction with 9-R Schools, is
holding Picnic in the Park, a free children’s concert
featuring noted children’s musician Jeff Kagan. Picnic in the
Park will get going at 4:30 p.m. at Buckley Park.
Kagan has been entertaining and educating children and parents
with his mountain-inspired nature music for more than a decade. The
musician currently makes his home in Boulder and writes the
majority of his songs on solo hiking excursions through the
foothills of the Rockies.
During the school year Kagan teaches environmental education
with the Thorne Ecological Institute in Boulder. He also works as a
naturalist for the City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain
Parks. The common thread through his teaching is the use of music
to inspire appreciation for and educate about the natural world.
“I hope to live and create nature-based music in the Front
Range for a very long time,” he says.
In addition to the concert, Picnic in the Park will include a
raffle for toys sponsored by The Durango Kid Toy Store and
refreshments provided by Zuberfizz. Admission to the event is free
