The FLC Environmental Center and the Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado are hosting an all-day awareness and action event next Thurs., Jan. 31. The event will be one of many across the nation, under the umbrella organization Focus the Nation, with the goal of bringing the issue of climate change to the forefront of American thought. Durangoans are invited to participate in the event by attending any or all of the 22 lectures, discussions and films throughout the day. Presentations will include: the FLC Sustainability Assessment and Greenhouse Gas Inventory; the City of Durango and La Plata County Greenhouse Gas Inventory; and the Four Corners Office of Resource Efficiency. Speakers include: Koren Nydick, of the Mountain Studies Institute; Gary Giannini, FLC professor; and Jeff Berman, of San Juan BioEnergy. Mark Schwantes will also speak about LPEA’s renewable energy programs. There will also be free screenings in the Colorado Room of the CUB throughout the day. “An Inconvenient Truth” will show at 9 a.m. “End of Suburbia” screens at 11:30 a.m. “Who Killed the Electric Car” shows at 1:30 p.m. And “Escape From Suburbia” goes on at 4:30 p.m. For a complete schedule, visit: http: //envcenter.fortlewis.edu. |
