All users have a chance to weigh in on the future shape of the “Lakes” landscape, the Missionary Ridge area encompassing Vallecito and Lemon reservoirs. On Nov. 8, the Forest Service will host a public meeting to discuss travel management direction for the Lakes area. The meeting takes place from 7-9 p.m. in the Fort Lewis College Ballroom.

The process hopes to integrate enhanced motorized recreation experiences into the existing public lands uses in the region. All users are encouraged to take part in the meeting.

“The Forest Service is open to addressing more than off-road vehicle travel during this meeting,” said Mary Monroe, executive director of Trails 2000. “The more public participation we have from all user groups at the table, the better this process will be.”

The need for travel planning, as well as public participation in the travel management process, and possible future field trips to look at areas of concern will be discussed at the meeting. However, over-the-snow travel will not be a part of this process. Travel management planning is scheduled to be completed by September 2009.
