Let them eat cake: A twist on the traditional truffle |
Heather Hinsley and Luda Woodward, of Cake Café in Durango, specialize in custom cakes and other fancy sweets that truly are edible works of art. Recently, they added truffles to their list of decadent finger-food desserts. Thing is, their truffles aren’t filled with ganache, or the creamy soft chocolate most come to expect when it comes to the traditional confection. The duos’ invention is called a “Cake Truffle,” and they’re just as good as they sound – cake balls dipped in hard chocolate. “The most demand is for classic chocolate Cake Truffles,” says Hinsley, “although we can make almost any flavor a customer chooses.” Cake Truffles aren’t quite as classy or rich as a traditional truffle, but fans of chocolate or cake, or both chocolate and cake, will definitely want to give the creative truffles a try. – Kinsee Morlan |
