Celebrating the local harvest

This weekend, the local community can enjoy a day of live music and farm fresh food while helping out sustainable agriculture at the same time. The La Boca Center for Sustainability is hosting a harvest festival at the farm from 10 a.m. -6 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 14.

Located 7 miles south of Ignacio on Hwy. 172, La Boca’s mission is to “develop, demonstrate and teach sustainable agriculture practices that improve quality of life, local production and environmental stewardship.” La Boca farmers will

share this mission on Saturday by leading pasture and garden walks, discussing sustainable agriculture practices and celebrating the bounty of local production. The festivities will include live music, locally grown foods, a beer and game garden, and horse-drawn hay rides.

A $5 requested donation at the door will help raise funds for a root cellar, and participants should bring camping chairs, picnic blankets and drinking water. For more information or directions, visit www.labocacenter.org.
