Conference brings climate change into focus

Fort Lewis College and Durango are putting climate change into focus today, Jan. 31. The local college joins 1,500 other campuses around the country in Focus the Nation, a nationwide teach-in on solutions to global warming.
Focus the Nation is bringing together faculty, students and staff at colleges and universities, high schools, middle schools and elementary schools for a nonpartisan discussion about the causes and consequences of climate change, potential solutions and actions we can take to address this critical issue.   
At Fort Lewis, Focus the Nation kicks off at 8:30 a.m. in the College Union Ballroom and will continue until 8 p.m. and features lectures, discussions and films. The events include: a presentation of Fort Lewis College’s first ever Greenhouse Gas Inventory; a progress report on the City/County Greenhouse Gas Inventory; a presentation about the new Four Corners Office of Resource Efficiency; a description of the energy exhibits at the Durango Discovery Museum; an update on the San Juan Biodiesel Cooperative; and a special theatrical presentation in honor of Ye Olde Snowdown: “Sir Clive the Climate Crusader and the Quest for the Grail of Green Power.”
There will also be showings of the films “An Inconvenient Truth,” “Who Killed the Electric Car,” “End of Suburbia” and its new sequel “Escape from Suburbia.” The event will also highlight numerous opportunities to get involved on campus and in the community. College Environmental Center and is co-sponsored by the Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado. It is free and open to all who care about the future of our planet.
