Remedies to go public

Potential solutions to La Plata County’s health-care crisis will be detailed next week. John Snow Inc., a national consulting firm, will present the findings of an assessment of local health care on Mon., Sept. 24. The assessment was commissioned by the Primary Health Care Community Coalition, a grassroots effort to remedy local health-care problems.

Three separate community meetings will be held next Monday.

• 9-10:30 a.m. at the Sun Ute Community Center in Ignacio

• Noon-1:30 p.m. at the Pine River Public Library in Bayfield

• 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Durango Recreation Center’s Peaks Room

The public is encouraged to view JSI’s findings and most importantly offer community input and shape a future plan.

Coalition member Marsha Porter-Norton noted, “It’s now universally accepted that our community is in crisis with health care. We just need to find out exactly which direction to move in to fix it. Hopefully that will become clearer on Sept. 24.”
