‘In Quest of Quiet Places’ |
Commissioners, Forest Service planners, activists and citizens will all have off-highway vehicles on the brain as they converged on Fort Lewis College this Saturday. “In Quest of Quiet Places,” a forum on the local impacts of motorized use, takes place March 17 beginning at 10 a.m. in 125 Noble Hall. Morning sessions will feature a discussion on Off-Highway Vehicles in the backcountry with presentations by Nancy Berry of the Forest Service; La Plata County Commissioner Wally White; San Juan County Commissioner Pete McKay; Ronni Egan and Rose Chilcoat of the Great Old Broads for Wilderness; and Dave Peterson, of Trout Unlimited and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. At noon, Rob Blair, FLC professor emeritus, will discuss his 2006 Mt. Kilimanjaro climb that was aborted due to a rockfall that killed two climbers and broke the femur of a third party. A City Council candidates’ forum follows at 1 p.m. For more information, contact 247-0822. |
