Swim, bike, run

Yound local athletes swam, biked and ran their way to the finish line Saturday during the fourth annual Ironkid Triathlon at the Durango Community Recreation Center. Thirty-five kids, ranging in age from 2 to 12, took part in the event, which took place in the Rec Center pool and surrounding environs. The youngest competitors, aged 2 to 6 years, swam 50 yards, biked 1 mile and ran a quarter mile on the nearby Animas River Trail. Likewise, kids in the 7- to 10-year old bracket swam 100 yards, biked 2 miles and ran a half a mile, while kids in the oldest group, 11 to 12, swam 200 yards, biked 4 miles and ran a mile.

Mira Joyner backstrokes her last lap during the swimming segment in the 2- to 4-year old category. She finished the race with a time of 22:14.

Gino Pastore bounds across the finish line with a time of 15:06, en route to a third-place finish in the 9- to 10-year old class.
