Runners'High

The rhythmic reverberation of running shoes striking asphalt echoed through the Animas Valley on Saturday morning as the Steamworks Animas Valley Half Marathon rolled along County Road 250. Joey Grindstaff, a 2001 Fort Lewis College grad, posted the fastest time of the day whipping up on the competition and finishing the course in 1:16:22. Brianne Lippoldt was the fastest female of the day finishing with a time of 1:23:29. More than 85 runners tackled the 13 miles of rolling terrain to finish among friends and family at the Durango Sports Club. With the half marathon now a memory, local runners are setting their sights on the ever challenging Oct. 10 Durango Marathon.
