The Fort Lewis College Music Department hosts the Four Corners Jazz Festival all day long on March 4, featuring high school and junior high bands from across the Four Corners.

Folkie Tracy Grammer brings her songs and stories to the Abbey Theatre on March 5.

The Fourth annual Durango Film Festival runs March 6-14. The festival will feature local and international independent features, documentaries, animation, short films, regional films and children's films, including 33 World Premiers. The festival kicks off March 5 with an opening gala at the Smiley Building.

FLC hosts 4 Corners Piano Competition
What: A competition among regional pianists and concerts from internationally renowned players
Where: The Community Concert Hall and Roshong Recital Hall at Fort Lewis College
When: Friday-Sunday, Feb. 27-29

Masters of the ivories will square off this weekend as the second Four Corners Piano Competition takes place Feb. 27-29. This competition will feature 18 talented junior high and high school pianists from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, and several special concerts from international greats.

Contestants will compete in junior solo, senior solo and concerto divisions, with the top three finishers receiving cash prizes. Winners in the senior solo and concerto divisions will receive $1,000. The winner of the concerto division will also be invited to perform with the San Juan Symphony under the baton of Arthur Post. Top prize in the junior solo category is $500.

Semifinal rounds will be held each day in Roshong Recital Hall in the Sage Hall building. Finalists from each division will compete in an honors concert from 1-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 29, in the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. An awards presentation and reception follows.

In addition to the competition, Norman Krieger, who has appeared with major orchestras across North America, Europe and Asia, will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, in Roshong Recital Hall. Falko Steinbach, who appears internationally as a soloist, clinician and adjudicator, will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, in Roshong Recital Hall.

DMR hosts "Ski for Schools"
What: Cheap lift tickets for a good cause

Durango Mountain Resort and the Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence have teamed up to support local schools and provide inexpensive ski tickets to the masses. This Friday, Feb. 27, the first "Ski for Schools" will raise money for the Foundation's educational programs and projects.

"Ski for Schools" lift ticket vouchers will cost just $25, and will be valid for a DMR full-day adult, student or child lift pass. Special discounts on rentals, food and beverage, and lessons will also be available. The one catch is that the vouchers must be purchased prior to Feb. 27. They are available at City Markets North and South, Albertson's, Durango 9-R schools, and through Parent Partner Coordinators.

The Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence, established in 1985, is a community organization working to encourage and recognize educational improvement and excellence for all students in Durango School District 9-R. The DFEE currently offers scholarships to Durango High School students and provides in-class programs and projects independent of school district funding. The Foundation raises funds through gifts and events.

Open Shutter hosts vintage jazz and fashion

Vintage black and white fashion and jazz photography will adorn the walls of the Open Shutter Gallery in coming weeks. The gallery presents an exhibit by Durango resident Gleb Derujinsky beginning Feb. 27 and continuing through April 5. In the 1950s, Derujinsky shot for magazines like Esquire , Glamour , Look , Life and Harper's Bazaar .At Bazaar , Gleb developed his own unique and playful style which won him accolades in the industry and set him apart from his peers. He is credited with photographing some of the most sophisticated and romantic images of the period. Gleb's assignments sent him to locations around the world, and on several trips, he photographed the fashion of famous designers in Paris. A personal interest in jazz led him tophotograph legends like Charlie Parker and Harry Belafonte. Gleb has lived in Durango since 1976.
