In a mostly bygone era, the community barbershop served as the social center of the community, a place where locals could loiter, talk of current affairs and or just gossip. And while most have been replaced
today by corporately owned chains, there are two barbershops in Durango that keep the rich history and tradition alive and thriving. Visit either Tucson's, on Main Ave., or Tony Gallego's College Plaza Hair Design and take a step back in time. These master barbers have been serving Durango for a combined 61 years and have the stories to prove it. Just ask Tucson about his request that Michael J. Fox hoof it across Main Avenue to the nearest ATM to access the necessary funds after his haircut.
