Paddle power

Santa Rita Park and the Animas River were hosts to a U.S. Canoe and Kayak Team qualifying event on Saturday. Slalom racers earned a combined score on two runs through the whitewater park. A two-second penalty was assessed if a paddler touched a gate and a 50-second penalty if a gate was missed altogther. Racers will go from here to South Bend, Ind., to compete for a spot on the national team.
