Coronation day


Competition for the 2003 La Plata County Fair’s royalty was held Saturday, Jan. 4, at the fairgrounds. Several girls between the ages of 16 and 18 showed up from across the county for the competition. In addition to havng to be members of either 4-H or Future Farmers of America, entrants were required to write an essay and have three letters of recommendation. Each girl also was asked a question by each of six judges. In the end, the judges crowned Molly Watson, 18, of Durango High School, as queen. Randy Oris was crowned junior royalty as Watson’s Lady in Waiting.
